Local councils have always had the ability to become dictatorial. UK councilors tend to be politico-types who know they’re inadequate as far as major politics is concerned. Hence, give them a little bit of power and they forget who is boss.
The problem is the same with the council official. These jumped-up little jobsworths think the local population is there to react to their whims. Excuse me, but they need to remember they are servants of the population, not its rulers.
This needs to be pointed out again and again, for with the rise of political correctness, and now environmentalism, councils are increasingly forgetting what their role is. Inadequacy leads to fanaticism, and in their hands they are turning these social movements into things to be hated.
