ENVIRONMENT - THE POLAR YEAR

Did you know we’re just beginning the International Polar Year? If not, then the hopes of the environment being at the centre of media reportage are premature. Rather, the media, as with governments and industry, are still paying lip service only, and indulging in ‘cosmetics’ to make us think they care.
Anyway, enough of the rant. It begins with 50,000 experts from sixty countries involving themselves in 228 projects into the effects of global warming in the Arctic and Antarctic.
Studying winds, pollutants and the effect on animals, this will be the biggest survey of climate change of its kind. Hopefully the media will pick it up in a big way. I just hope they’re not all going to the poles. Don’t want them to sink.
