The infamous Moors Murders were committed by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady. Ordinary 19 year old Myra became obsessed with the brooding sadist Brady while they worked for a Manchester chemicals firm.
Brought into his crimes by entrapping children to be tortured and killed, she went on to be as vicious and callous as him. Wanting another convert to bury the bodies on Saddleworth Moor, their crimes ended when Myra’s brother-in-law David Smith was invited back to their Wardle Brook Avenue home in Manchester to see Brady axe 17 year old Edward Evans to death. The next morning he phoned the police.
A luggage deposit ticket was found and 2 suitcases retrieved from Manchester station. Among the contents were lewd photos and an audio-tape of the torture and murder of 10 year old Lesley Ann Downey. Evidence also arose of the murders of the 12 year olds John Kilbride and Keith Bennett and 16 year old Pauline Reade. Given life at Chester Assizes in 1966, Hindley died in 2002 after a long campaign to gain her release, whilst Brady remains in a mental hospital.
