David Cameron has called for a new form of national service, with 16 year olds volunteering for a six week course in charity work, physical exercise and citizenship, etc. I sometimes despair of modern politics.
As I see it, such silly ideas come and go, and can never be a success because it is nothing more than a process of tampering with something that is clearly wrong, without the guts to actually deal with the real problem.
Every child used to have such a form of ‘national service’. It was done in school, over years, alongside academic education. Such things were taught as a matter of course, with no need for ‘top-up’ exercises in futility.
Why are these things not taught today? Because British society has been totally captured by an incorrect liberal ethic that places rights above duties, and hatred of tradition and country, where once was taught belonging.
