British forces in Afghanistan have played a leading role in retaking Musa Qala in the last few days. In Taliban hands since February, this strategic town will now be garrisoned by the British Army. It is a spectacular victory.
As always, British forces no doubt did their duty well, so why do I call this post ‘Disgraceful Conduct’? Because rather than having the full headlines in the UK media, this was taken by that chancer, Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Are we supposed to believe it was coincidence he arrived in the safety of Camp Bastion 70 miles away from fighting on the day of success? Or is it more likely he decided to cream success off the backs of UK troops – the troops he has bled dry financially for ten years?
The word ‘shame’ comes to mind.
