CHINA AND REGIONAL POWER

It is expected that the US Secretary of State will ask China to put pressure on North Korea to disclose its nuclear programme so talks can be had. Recently China was in the news concerning reluctance to step into the Darfur problem.
Does anyone see a connection? China is claiming to be a new global power, even hosting the Olympics. Yet it seems to think power does not involve responsibility. Well, sadly, it does.
China has a choice as it thinks it is emerging into the global arena. It can join the club, or it can think it is still that intellectually ignorant dictatorship it has been for so long. And joining the club means doing what it can for the wellbeing of the club.
China is trying to emerge under its own rules. The world doesn’t work like that.
