The Shadow Chancellor has declared that the ‘nationalisation’ of failed bank, Northern Rock, proves that NuLabour’s economic competence has finally died. Well, I won’t take lessons on economy from any politician.
Northern Rock should have been left to market forces, and allowed to fall. That would have been the honest thing to do, for the simple fact is, many of the practices – including our confidence and credit created fantasy economy – of modern capitalism cannot continue forever.
But this said, it IS time we realized the fact that politicians haven’t run our economy for decades. They – and us – are merely serfs of a global Big Biz empire, creating the false economy, and directing politicians at a whim.
The fall of Northern Rock, and the inevitable domino-effect that would have followed, could have been the clearest message yet to wake us from our serfdom. No wonder it could not, under any circumstances, go that way.
