TURKEY STIRS THE POT

The incursion into northern Iraq by Turkish troops could be indicative of the future of this beleaguered country. Aimed at tackling the problem of Kurdish aggression, it is operating with a clear, if subtle nod, from the US.
Is this a growing acceptance that Iraq is really three separate regions in the making? A country cobbled together by Britain as a compromise, as I’ve said before, Iraq could only ever be a single entity through dictatorship.
As soon as this system is gone, Iraq will naturally self-destruct, as I think America will soon have no choice but to acknowledge. Turkey will claim influence over the Kurds, Iran over southern Iraq, and Syria will increasingly be seen as protector of the Sunnis.
